Introduction
The Yusuf Youth Initative (YYI) was set up in 2004 by a group of young enthusiasts who are driven by the desire to work for their community and improve their society. The group, who have undertaken a number of community projects on a local and national scale, have recognised and highlighted key areas of development required within Scotland.
The YYI aims to provide for the needs of the community albeit old, young, male or female. The main focus will be on the ethnic minorities of the younger generation. The aim, objective and purpose of the YYI is to set up a full time institution which will invest in members of the community and in doing so, cater for various areas of educational, social and economical development. Recognising their role as upright moral citizens of Scotland, this motivated group have taken the initiative to work for the affairs of the Scottish population.
Current Projects
Sleepover
The YYI organises a number sleepovers open to all youth aged 12-25 and consisted of Sports Activities, Food, Discussion of Youth Issues and Sleep.
Day Trips
The YYI has organised a number of day trips including hill walking,
barbeques and sport activities. Each of these activities is accompanied
by some moral or valuable discussion based around cultural, educational
or religious values.
Youth Camps
The YYI has organised two youth camps at Killin Youth Hostel in April and Rowerdennan Youth Hostel in October. These camps are well attended and received with approximately 40 youth attending. This gives the youngsters a chance to get to socialise, explore new activities and also forms a spirit of camaraderie.
Educational Circles
The YYI organises a weekly educational discussion and interchange on
diverse topics including drugs, underage sex, youth problems and cultural
and community identity. The focus is on integration within the British
community while maintaining a cultural and moral identity
Visions
Clothing & Merchandise
The YYI logo will help the organisation develop into a nationwide household
name. YYI looks into educating the ethnic minority groups and in particular
its young generation of active participation in British society as opposed
to an attitude of isolation. It is hoped that this brand will open the
doors for youth getting involved in different aspects of society. YYI
branded clothing and merchandise will be sold via a website, designed
and printed by youth and hopefully with the assistance of chain stores
will be sold in each city. YYI will gain recognition throughout Scotland
and its activities will be promoted.
